Shopping, Charity and Holiday Cheer by Desmalyn Tanner

Tis’ the season to be jolly. That’s right: temperatures are dropping, families are coming together to celebrate and (let’s not forget) there are sales on everything from clothing to electronics. There has always been something about the winter holidays that makes people want to shop and give. Luckily, the time has come again when you can get both missions accomplished, all while strolling through one of Chattanooga’s most beautiful, charming neighborhoods.

If you love fabulous deals and donating to a worthy cause, here is your chance – the Shops at Riverview’s annual Holiday Hoop-La and open house. This year’s event will span three days, from Nov. 4 to Nov. 6, and the festivities will kick off with a preview party on Nov. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m.

During the Holiday Hoop-La, customers can get their hands on some amazing items from stores such as Encore Consignment Boutique, Lambs & Ivy, Lula’s, Charlotte’s Web, Bungalow, Vine Street market and many more. There will also be special events taking place throughout the course of the weekend, just in case you need a break from all of that shopping.

To add to the excitement, the Shops at Riverview will be partnering with local non-profit RE:START – The Center for Adult Education, formally known as READ Chattanooga, which aims to improve the quality of life of people in the community through adult education. Shelley Meredith, co-owner of Cynthia Howell Stationery and Gifts, is excited about working with RE:START this year. “We’re going to be raising awareness, as well as donating to them,” she says. Be sure to catch RE:START at Riverview during the open house. The organization will be informing the public about the center and its mission. As an added bonus, those generous enough to donate to RE:START can take advantage of major discounts throughout different stores.

The Shops at Riverview is a shopping community filled with clothing, craft stores, restaurants and much more. One unique aspect of this area is the stores are housed inside of beautiful homes. So, in addition to shopping, customers can enjoy the scenery of one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. Situated just one mile from downtown Chattanooga, Riverview is a must-see for natives and tourists looking to snag great items, eat delicious food or spend the day sightseeing within a charming vicinity.
