Student helps break school dropout cycle

"High school dropouts now have an even greater incentive to pursue a GED thanks to Baylor ninth-grader and Signal Mountain resident Aliza Cohen.

In lieu of gifts, Cohen said she asked guests at her bat mitzvah to donate money to a scholarship fund she established for RE:START — The Center for Adult Education GED program candidates.

“Regardless of why they dropped out, everyone deserves a second chance,” said Cohen. “Especially right now with the economy down and with the new Volkswagon plant coming to Chattanooga, to have a high school education will really help you get a job.”
